Voting is now open!

Thank you for your donation this month. With your help we be able to give away funds to a worthy NZ charity next month!

So, who shall we give it to?

Choose one of these 3 charities to receive this money in October 2017 (Vote in the poll below before 5pm, 30 September 2017)

1. Shakti Ethnic Women’s Support Group Central Region Inc #CC43541

About Us

Since 1995, Farida Sultana has been at the forefront of addressing domestic violence against ethnic women in New Zealand. Being a survivor of domestic violence herself, her vision was to create a safe space for ethnic women seeking support and shelter outside an abusive relationship. In 1995, she founded the Shakti Asian Women’s Support Group Trust with 7 other ethnic immigrant women, in Auckland. Spurred by the needs of ethnic women and families within the Asian, African and Middle Eastern communities of New Zealand, the Support Group expanded nationally and was reconstituted as Shakti Community Council Inc.

2. De Paul House #CC49019

WHAT DO WE DO?

De Paul House provides housing and support services for homeless families. Our service aims to keep families united in a safe and dignified environment, and help them address the issues that have led to them being homeless. Families set goals with the assistance of the support team. These goals commonly include housing, budgeting and a compulsory savings programme. Participation in our life skills classes is also a key part of our programme, as is enrolment of children in our playgroup. School aged children benefit from our after school homework centre. This range of services offers support for the entire family and enables them to become independent, confident and resilient.

3. SuperGrans Manawatu Charitable Trust #CC28684

Our Services

We provide At-Home Mentoring and Workshops in the Manawatu areas. From January 2011 to January 2015 we also operated in the Whanganui and Marton areas, but this was stopped due to an inability to source sustainable funding. It is hoped that SuperGrans Aotearoa will be able to raise funds to re-start SuperGrans Whanganui as an independent trust.

Skill areas we can assist with:

  • Good menu planning
  • Budget shopping
  • Basic cooking
  • Basic household budgeting
  • Housekeeping techniques
  • Household hygiene

  1. Supergrans are an amazing group. I am involved in an MCH project TOGETHER which aims at reducing term baby admissions to the Neonatal Unit (NNU). Supergrans are supporting us by helping to produce merino blankets which will help prevent babies getting cold after birth and reducing the risk of admission to NNU.
